SAN ANTONIO (TX) - Lifelong Precinct 1 resident, Jose “Joe” Ortiz will officially launch his campaign by filing for a place on the Republican ballot on Thursday, December 15, 2011. Ortiz is no stranger to public service. As a Bexar County Sheriff’s Deputy, he has served his community for over 7 years. As a Sheriff’s Deputy, Ortiz has logged over 4,000 Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Educations hours. Prior to joining the Sheriff’s Office, Ortiz served as a Children’s Mental Health worker. Ortiz is a decorated veteran of the United States Military. He is a graduate of the United States Army Military Police Academy and was selected for the Air Force One Protection detail. Growing up Ortiz attended Grade, middle and high school within the Harlandale Independent School District. Ortiz also attended Palo Alto College, San Antonio College and American Military University. Ortiz enters the race seeking to bring back representation to all Precinct 1 residents. Residents of Precinct 1 have suffered from a lack of leadership and representation for too long. As County Commissioner, Ortiz plans to work on improving Public Safety, Infrastructure, Economic Development and Veteran Services. In a time of economic hardship and uncertainty, Ortiz enters the race at a vital period to improve the quality of life for every Precinct 1 resident regardless of political affiliation or economic status.
